the september issue

fashion in action!
www.imdb.com

I recently saw The September Issue at The Barracks (perfect location, wine with your movie - what more do I need to say!). And absolutely loved it. A great opportunity to peek inside those Vogue doors for a few hours! As all the reviews are saying Grace Coddington really shines as a true creative soul. Her photo shoots are works of art, there is a poignant scene where she is looking out on the gardens of Versailles that is just beautiful.

and it's on YouTube - love it!

And I liked Anna Wintour, although being a huge taskmaster, you can see that it is coming from a very strong vision and expectation she has for the magazine. (Although it may be a little tough to take that much direction on a daily basis!!) It is also interesting to note that Anna and Grace are in their late 50's and 60's respectively, inspirational women!

love forever

The Queensland Art Gallery has a fantastic triennial exhibition, the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT). Kids APT is always alot of fun too! Lots of craft activities designed for kids, but great for the young-at-heart too! The next one hits Brisbane on December 5th.

My favourite is still the 2002 exhibition, which introduced me to artists such as Micheal Lin and Yayoi Kusama.

The installations by Yayoi Kusama blew me away. The Japanese artist was born in 1929 and works primarily with dots across many mediums. Her exploration of polka dots and nets as motifs apparently started at an early age, around ten! The installation "Soul under the moon 2002" featured glow in the dark balls in an infinity room - it seemed to go on for ever. It was amazing to stand in.

And the beautiful installation of reflective silver balls "Narcissus garden 2002".

Experiencing installations like these always emphasises to me how much impact an interior can have on you, so inspiring! Here are a few of Yayoi Kusmama's other worlds.

I bought this poster of Yayoi Kusama at the exhibition, which is from an opening in New York 1966 where these buttons were distributed. Love the sentiment!

where dreams dwell

My perfect bedroom exists in a warehouse style apartment! Exposed brick walls, black four-poster bed, hand-blown glass pendants, and maybe throw in some timber stools as bedsides and artworks propped against the wall!

Images from Living etc UK

And just a few other pics of rooms to dream in, more to come!

what i heart this week!

It has been awhile been posts! There have been some holidays, some travel and some flu!

I have long been a fan of Mark Tuckey's furniture, I keep suggesting the raw timber stools in interior jobs, I love them! So I was looking at his site this week and had to share my fav pieces. I love the use of timber in it's natural, raw state, so beautiful! In the background you can see items from a few other favourites of mine, Pierre & Charlotte and artwork by David Bromley.

All of the images below are from the Mark Tucky website.
And I have to show a few of the timber stools!

And a side table!

And some Pierre & Charlotte lights too!

How great are these lights! For those of us in Brissie you can also get them from Janie Collins.
I think this one makes the perfect bedside lamp!
