melbourne!

I was lucky enough to be sent on a very quick trip to Melbourne for the Design & Decoration Fair this week for work. I absolutely love Melbourne, so it seemed like such a waste to catch a cab to the Exhibition Centre and then back to the airport without a little walk on Melbourne's streets!

There is always interesting architecture happening in Melbourne, great cladding and finishes, and unusual and inspiring touches, so below are a few shots from my very brief walk around the river, before running for a cab!!

These laser cut screens were being installed under the bridge as I walked by. The tree design and the bright colours (red-orange through to yellow) work so well against the industrial elements of the bridge!

The Melbourne Aquarium
The combo of the screens, copper (a fav material of mine), existing brick, black and timber fencing to the back, with the folded shape makes for an eye catching building!

The powdercoated fins remind me of timber and the design reminds me of the coast for some reason? I love the irregular placement and that it is on a city building.
A building with in-built seating - love the colour too!

Oh, and sitting on the river in Melbourne drinking coffee - pure bliss!

happy haus

I recently stumbled across the very cute happy haus site. It is a great example of prefab housing, made locally in South-East Queensland, and designed by the very talented Donovan Hill architects. I love the design and finishes, a perfect palette of white, charcoal and timber! Now I just need to find a block of land by the beach to put it on!
